High-order mode based dispersion compensating modules using spatial mode conversion

چکیده
High-Order Mode Dispersion Compensating Modules (HOM-DCM) using spatial optical transformations for mode conversion are reviewed. It is shown that mode transformers using this technology can be designed to transform the LP01 mode of SMF fibers to the LP02 mode of specially designed dispersion compensating High-Order Mode Fiber (HOMF), with typical insertion loss of ∼1 dB, and typical extinction ratio to other modes less than−20 dB. The HOMF itself can provide high negative dispersion [typically in the range of 400–600 ps/(nm km)], and high negative dispersion slope, allowing efficient compensation of all types of transmission fiber. Combining two mode transformers with HOMF and possibly trim fiber for fine-tuning, results, for example, in a HOM-DCM that compensates 100 km LEAF R © fiber, with Insertion loss < 3.5 dB, and Multi-Path Interference (MPI)< −36 dB. MPI phenomena in HOM-DCMs is characterized, and shown to comprise both coherent and incoherent parts, and to result from both the mode transformers and fiber coupling within the HOMF. MPI values of < −36 dB have been shown to allow error free transmission of 10 Gb/s signals over up to 6000 km. Finally, a number of applications well suited to the properties of HOM-DCMs are reviewed.

Symmetrical Dispersion Compensation For High Speed Optical Links
In this paper, the performance of high speed optical fiber based network is analysed by using dispersion compensating module (DCM). The optimal operating condition of the DCM is obtained by considering dispersion management configurations for the symmetrical system i.e Pre-compensation & Post-compensation. The dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) is tested for a single span, single channel syste...

In this paper, the polarization mode dispersion in eight channel WDM system is evaluated by considering one even channel and one odd channel performance parameters like BER and Q-factor. As PMD effects transmission at high bit rates so it is compensated with the help of dispersion compensating fibre at different distances by controlling the polarising angle with the help of polarization control...
متن کاملDispersion-free fiber transmission for femtosecond pulses by use of a dispersion-compensating fiber and a programmable pulse shaper.
We demonstrate nearly distortionless 2.5-km fiber transmission of sub-500-fs pulses, using a combination of standard single-mode fiber, dispersion-compensating fiber, and a programmable pulse shaper for simultaneous quadratic and cubic dispersion compensation. The dispersion-compensating fiber corrects the bulk of the quadratic and the cubic phases for the single-mode fiber, and the fiber-pigta...
متن کاملThe preventive role of Snell’s law in mode conversion from Z- to whistler-mode waves in an inhomogeneous magnetoplasma with a low density
Electromagnetic waves with different modes, such as Z-, whistler-, LO- and RX- modes are found in different regions of the Earth magnetosphere and the magnetosphere of other planets. Since whistler-mode waves influence the behavior of the magnetosphere, and they are used as experimental tools to investigate the upper atmosphere, they are important. On the other hand, the mode conversion process...
متن کاملDispersion Compensating Fiber Modules for Dispersion-Shifted Fiber
A dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) is designed to have its zero dispersion wavelength in 1.55μm wavelength range. Since the dispersion of DSF is close to zero in the C-band, conditions for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission using DSF are limited due to four wave mixing (FWM). In the L-band, however, the DSF has some dispersion values, so that the DWDM transmission using DS...
